The novel The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is one of the most famous fantasy/adventure/action stories ever written. It begins with a meeting of a group of dwarves, a hobbit, and an old wizard in a large (from the perspective of a hobbit) hobbit hole. It is here that the last in line of the famously conservative Baggins kin members is persuaded into embracing his adventurous side. Bilbo Baggins, accompanied by thirteen dwarves, sets out on this adventure to recover the dwarve's treasure and former estate
from a narcissistic dragon.
While reading this book I picked up on the fact that Bilbo gains confidence with every challenge he overcomes. Whether it be as simple as waiting on thirteen dwarves all at once or using his cunning to fool a dragon many times his size and strength. Bilbo also always found a way to accomplish the task at hand. These bouts of confidence support the central theme in this story which is gaining self-confidence. The use of imagery throughout bilbo's adventures was really the key to the story. There is not a better story in the same genre with better imagery. It is almost like you are right there with Bilbo throughout each sticky situation he gets into.
Overall the I would recommend The Hobbit to anybody who thinks they don't like to read. It is one of the books that I could actually keep wanting to read. As previously stated the imagery is one of the major strengths to the novel. Along with imagery, another strength to this novel is the chapter size. They aren't so long that they seem to drag on and they aren't so short that you feel like it is a children's book.

Running
It takes a lot of effort and determination to go out and run a mile. I have achieved a new found respect for people who actually go out and run for sport. I will admit that it does feel great after you finish your run but the the mental strength it requires to do it is significant. I look forward to not running a lot this spring. Thank you senioritis

Golfing
It is very interesting to me that after a long hard day I find the energy to walk a round of golf. Living in central new York brings us golfers into a dilemma...all of those big hills. Walking up, across, down, back up, and across again makes for a very interesting choice of vocabulary. I swear that even the most polite of gentlemen would let out a curse or two when golfing in central New York. I could go on for hours about how many things bother me about the game but I still pick up the sticks and hope for par.

Doctor
The Pre-med Decision
Everyone has either been to a doctor's office, seen them on television, or known of one otherwise.
It is very clear and obvious to people that doctors live a fairly comfortable life in which they can apply themselves to a good cause every day. When confronted with choosing a profession, most seniors in high school begin to think about what can make you the most money. Upon observing the details of a doctors job, it came clear to me that i had to be one. With four years of college classes and graduates school you can become a doctor. It may be hard work but after the completion it is very rewarding. With the median income for doctors at well over $100,000 and the fact that there will never be a job shortage for doctors, it is the best career choice.
